The School Series
This series of sculptural pieces were created to represent ways in which creatures can congregate. I’ve chosen the school of fish as a title as this represents the way fish can gain safety from predators by confusing them, and also allows them to save energy by using the slipstreams of other fish. A school is a group of fish belonging to the same species (as opposed to a shoal which contains many species loosely gathered together). There is a beautiful sychrony when all the fish swim in the same direction, that is also seen in a murmuration of birds.
SCHOOL No.1
This piece was constructed using pieces of plastic cut from melted milk bottles. These were coated with an il based black gloss paint and glued to bamboo skewers. These were then glued into holes in a board. The background is painted using oil paints and resined.
